The Miami Heat are rumored to be readying a roster spot for the trade deadline, but if no deal is made, they’d still like to have an open spot to sign a player.

As is the case every year, veteran players are bought out after the deadline and look to sign with a contender. That’s a possible scenario for Milwaukee Bucks forward Caron Butler, who has fallen out of the youthful Bucks rotation.

If the Bucks are to release Butler after the deadline, the Heat seem to want in.

Bleacher Report’s Ethan Skolnick identifies Caron Butler as a player the Heat may target if the Bucks agree to a buyout after the trade deadline, citing mutual admiration between the veteran small forward and Miami’s front office.

Butler of course was drafted by the Heat back in 2002 and spent his first two seasons with the organization before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Shaquille O’Neal deal.

It’s expected the Bucks will attempt to trade Butler before the deadline, though may struggle to find takers.
