Yankees not in on Stephen Drew

At this rate, it doesn’t look like Stephen Drew is going to have a job at the start of the season.

Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York reports that the Yankees are still not interested in the free agent shortstop. Despite news of Captain Derek Jeter retiring and talks that Alex Rodriguez may never play again in a Yankees’ uniform, higher-ups do not appear to want to go anywhere near Drew – at least at this stage in the game.

Drew and agent Scott Boras made headlines recently by demanding a one-year opt-out of any multi-year deal signed with any team. It was after that declaration that the New York Mets, viewed by some as his best landing spot, soured on him. The situation based on his contract demands, for now, looks bleak.
