Two players that are ready to deliver for Oscar Pareja’s FC Dallas are Colombians Andres Escobar (no relation to the player killed for an own goal), nicknamed “Manga,” and Fabian Castillo. Former teammates at Deportivo Cali and the Under-20 national team, Escobar and Castillo deliver some much-needed speed for Dallas.
With Jackson Goncalves traded to Toronto FC, Escobar arrives to Dallas on loan from Dynamo Kiev and has the option to buy his contract at the end of the 2014 MLS season.
“[Escobar]’s exciting,” FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo told MLSSoccer.com’s Matt Barbour. “I think he’s a little bit more polished. I think his finishing is also better and he [played] for the last three years in a different environment in the Ukraine.
“You’re talking about two wingers coming at you with speed in Fabián and Andrés. I just don’t want to be a defender on the other team.”
The addition of Hendry Thomas to FC Dallas adds more intrigue to the mix. FC Dallas will have a roster of 32, which is two over the limit. The deadline to finalize a 30-man roster is Mar. 1.
“We are still working to try and complete the roster, which hopefully we have another move,” Clavijo added. “If not, I’m OK, we can still always have a spot that’s open for what the summer window will bring.
“We addressed serious issues that we had with the team for this year, and we’re extremely happy with the way it is right now.”
