Braves’ Jason Heyward will wear protective guard

The Atlanta Braves will be looking to take the National League East for the second year for the second year in a row after finishing the 2013 campaign with a 96-66 record. They were able to outlast the Washington Nationals, who finished the year 10 games behind the first place Braves.

Now this year could be a whole lot better for Atlanta if key pieces are able to stay healthy. They missed Dan Uggla and Jason Heyward for a period of time, while Justin Upton was listed as day to day several times. This team could have easily won over a little over 100 games.

Last year Heyward missed a month after suffering a broken jaw after taking a fast ball from Jon Niese.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jason Heyward will be wearing a protective guard all-year round when he’s in the batters box. The guy isn’t taking any chance, which is a good thing.

I remember when Marlon Byrd‘ took a pitch to the dome during a series against the Boston Red Sox while he was with the Chicago Cubs. That was brutal.
