At halfway point of Games, IOC calls Sochi a success

Gilbert Felli, executive director of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), told reporters on Friday that the organization is pleased with how the first half of the Sochi Olympics have transpired.

Yup, it’s definitely been smooth sailing the entire time.

Here are Felli’s comments, via Inside the Games:

We had concerns ourselves, we had concerns with people telling us that they knew what would happen, so we have been working hard. We have an expression in French: nous sommes déçus en bien – we are disappointed in good. That means that things are going much better than you even expected, so for me the atmosphere is great. So here we are, the magic of the Games is playing and we have disappointed people because it works.

It’s hard not to agree with the IOC’s assessment. I mean, it’s not like there have been a slew of controversies or anything. Let’s hope the second half goes just as well!
