The New York Knicks are both trying to win a championship and dying to convince Carmelo Anthony to stay in New York long-term this summer. This whole act has really put a lot of control in Anthony’s hands and it appears he may be starting to make some calls upstairs with requests to make him happy.
Anthony’s influence on the Knicks front office is not totally known, but it’s likely that he has some weight to throw around when it comes to what kinds of moves are made. When it comes to head coach Mike Woodson, Melo has told reporters that they should expect to see Woodson coaching the team after the All-Star Break.
And when your star player with an expiring contract say jump, you say ‘how high’?
“Do I think he’ll be fired?’’ Anthony said. “We got practice in Memphis Monday and Woody will be there. Plain and simple.’’
Many thought that the Knicks would pull the rig out from under Woodson at the All-Star Break, but that appears unlikely to happen, especially with Melo throwing some support behind his coach. How long the love lasts is unknown, but for now it seems Woodson will remain in New York until Melo changes his mind.
