Four gold medals were handed out on Saturday morning, with two coming at Adler Arena Skating Center in the men’s and women’s short track competitions. Viktor Ahn captured gold for host nation Russia in the men’s 1000m final, while China’s Zhou Yang was able to win gold on the ladies side in the 1500m final for China.

The win allowed Yang to successfully defend her gold medal in the event from four years ago in Vancouver.

Second-place went to Shim Suk-Hee of South Korea, while Italy’s Arianna Fontana captured bronze.

For Emily Scott of the United States, her chances of winning a medal in the event were cut short whenever she was caught up in a three-person crash early in the race.
