United States bobsledder Lolo Jones is still on a quest to record the first medal of her Olympic career, which she hopes she can accomplish at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi after being paired with Jazmine Fenlator.
Jones has previously entered Olympics as the favorite from her time as a track and field star, but now she is the underdog and it is a role that she is embracing.
“This is the Olympics of the underdogs,” Jones said, via the Associated Press.
“You think about everybody who was supposed to medal who didn’t medal and then you think about just so many people who have kind of come up and got a first medal. It’s been a really weird Olympics. You go down the line like Shaun White, Shani Davis, who else we have, Heather (Richardson) … it’s been definitely a year of the underdogs. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Jones and Fenlator are a longshot to medal as the American’s bottom pairing in bobsled competition, but that won’t stop her from holding out hope.
“I think every Olympian goes to the Olympics and thinks about a medal,” Jones said. “If you’re not going and thinking about a medal, you shouldn’t go.”
