Maria Komissarova was hoping to compete in the skicross at the 2014 Winter Olympics in her home country of Russia, but a serious training accident has forced her to withdraw from competition.
Komissarova suffered a fracture of the spine and a dislocation, that will require an “urgent surgery” to take place in Krasnaya Polyana. The news comes from R-Sport.
“It happens…It can happen everywhere,” IOC chairman Jean Claude-Killy told Reuters. “I’ve been in this business for many years, it happens. We are very sorry about it…We hate accidents at the Games. I have been to the hospital myself a couple of times, so I know it can happen.”
The accident occurred at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.
We would like to wish Komissarova a full and speedy recovery from the serious injury.
