Gyasi Zardes was the hero against FC Shirak for the Los Angeles Galaxy, and now he is the hero for LA against the San Jose Earthquakes. Zardes’s strike in the 54th minute gave Los Angeles a 2-1 victory over the Earthquakes to win the Central California Cup on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, Calif.

Marcelo Sarvas scored in the 31st minute for LA and Josh Morton made it 2-1 in the 67th minute of play.

Los Angeles continue their preseason slate on Wednesday with a closed-door scrimmage against UCLA at StubHub Center. Following the match with the Bruins, the Galaxy will end their preseason schedule with the White vs. Blue Match against LA Galaxy II.

Speaking of LA Galaxy II, they won their first-ever match by the same score, but over USL Pro side Fresno Fuego.

“It was a really good exercise for us,” Onalfo told LAGalaxy.com’s Adam Serrano. “Any time you put on the Galaxy jersey, you want to win. From that standpoint, I was pleased, but there were some good things and a few bad things, but it is preseason. We’re just nine days into the preseason and this is all part of the process. There’s a lot that we can build on as we move forward.

Onalfo, personally, was looking forward to the White vs. Blue Game on Feb. 22.

“Our focus is getting better each day,” Onalfo said of the match. “We’ll get the guys ready. It’ll be a fun match for everybody.”

Meanwhile, Jose Villareal is hoping is loan with Cruz Azul goes smoothly. He already is shining with the Under-20 side, even scoring against Chivas de Guadalajara’s conterparts.

“The loan is going well. I like it here in Mexico City and I’ve been having fun. The teammates are treating me well, the coaching staff is great and the city is amazing. I’m very happy here,” Villarreal told Serrano. “I’m ready to go now. I’m getting rhythm and I should be getting games soon.

“This is an important move to me. Los Angeles is always going to be my home and I miss the team, but it is a big step for me in my young career. It’s going to help me grow as a player to play with such high caliber players. We’ll evaluate at the end of the year how everything went, but hopefully it goes well.”

Time Warner Cable SportsNet unveiled its broadcast team for the Galaxy throughout the 2014 season on Friday. Joe Tutino joins the Time Warner Cable SportsNet team and returns to the Galaxy TV booth in 2014 after spending 2003 thru ’13 as the radio ‘voice’ of the Galaxy.
