Mark Richt adds son to Georgia staff

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt recently took time away from mastering the finer points of curling and being attacked by Storm Troopers to add a new face to his staff.

So who is the newest Bulldog? It’s Mark’s son, Jon Richt.

Before you start screaming about favoritism and all that, know that Georgia state laws mandate Jon only having a volunteer role on the team:

There are Georgia state nepotism laws which prevent the hiring of family members, hence Jon Richt’s status as a volunteer under his father Mark, who will be entering his 14th season as head coach (Macon Telegraph).

Given Mark’s recent interest in Star Wars (see link above), the hiring of his own son is interesting. Will they rule the galaxy SEC together as father and son, or will Jon turn against his father and confront him in an epic lightsaber duel? Tune in next football season to find out!
