The United States men’s curling team came within an inch of keeping their hopes of advancing to the semifinals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi alive. Unfortunately, Team USA had a near miss on their final stone and Canada was able to edge the Americans, 8-6.

It was a disappointing end to the tournament for skip John Shuster and the rest of the United States curling team, but they put on an impressive fight.

The American women were also eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday, with a loss to Sweden.

With bother U.S. squads out of the Olympic tournament, they will have to watch as someone else takes the medal podium. The good news, however, is that both teams showed signs of improvement and the future for American curling is looking bright.
