The Baltimore Orioles have had their named linked to just about every high profile free agent, yet, they’ve come away empty handed.
That looks like it will be changing in the near future as Roch Kubatko of MASNsports reports that the Orioles are working on a four year, $48 million dollar contract with free agent pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez.
#Orioles have made substantial progress on Jimenez and are working to finalize deal. Believed 4 years and around $48 mil.
Keep in mind – the deal isn’t complete, but, it’s working on getting there.
Assuming Jimenez does sign, that leaves Ervin Santana as the last high profile free agent pitcher on the market. The four year, $48 million dollar deal should set the market for Santana, who reportedly was seeking a $100 million dollar contract when free agency broke.
As for Jimenez, he comes off a very solid season with the Cleveland Indians, but simply priced himself out of their range. At $12 million a year, while not exactly team friendly, it’s very fair for the Orioles considering the current market.
