NBA Rumors: Miami Heat could sign Carmelo Anthony with creative finances

It seems a bit outlandish to suggest Carmelo Anthony could join the Miami Heat in free agency next season, but, it’s technically not impossible.

Come the end of this season, the Heat will only have $2 million dollars of guaranteed money on their books – the contract of Norris Cole. Of course, that would require LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to all opt-out of their contracts.

However, doing so would apparently allow the Heat to sign Carmelo Anthony – this assuming that James, Bosh and Wade were all willing to sign for $14 million dollars.

Per Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

According to @stevekylerNBA Carmelo could join Miami if LeBron, Wade, Bosh & Melo all sign for $14 million. That is the Heat media’s dream.

Of course, there would never been enough balls to go around and it’s tough to believe Carmelo would even entertain the thought given that, but it’s still an interesting scenario. Hard to think that won’t come up a few times between the players over the course of the next few months.
