NBA Rumors: Miami Heat could sign Carmelo Anthony with creative finances

It seems a bit outlandish to suggest Carmelo Anthony could join the Miami Heat in free agency next season, but, it’s technically not impossible.

Come the end of this season, the Heat will only have $2 million dollars of guaranteed money on their books – the contract of Norris Cole. Of course, that would require LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to all opt-out of their contracts.

However, doing so would apparently allow the Heat to sign Carmelo Anthony – this assuming that James, Bosh and Wade were all willing to sign for $14 million dollars.

Per Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

According to @stevekylerNBA Carmelo could join Miami if LeBron, Wade, Bosh & Melo all sign for $14 million. That is the Heat media’s dream.

Of course, there would never been enough balls to go around and it’s tough to believe Carmelo would even entertain the thought given that, but it’s still an interesting scenario. Hard to think that won’t come up a few times between the players over the course of the next few months.

Why would any team want Carmelo? What has he proven he’s capable of doing in the postseason besides lose? Sure, he can score with the best of them, but he’s a me-first guy that shoots 65% of this teams shots. No other bonafide Superstar IMHO would or should want to be paired with him.

Melo is actually a really good player when he doesn’t have to be the main focus. Like on the Olympic Team, he was top tier. So him joining James, Bosh and Wade would work.

True but he has always had to be the “man”. If he’s playing with LeBron that load get’s taken off his shoulders and he can do what he does naturally…score.

Even if we do get Melo what about the paint? Right now we have a target on our backs and the rotation to help is just not there if the scouts can find a big man that we can live with attack the boards like we are losing our mines we will be fine as far as being the man please we are talking championships that should not be an issue.
