The NBA trade deadline is right around the corner and the Minnesota Timberwolves are staring it wondering if they’ll be able to do anything to help the team improve in the second half. After a miserable start to the season, Minnesota is falling further and further back in the playoff race and may ultimately fall out with plenty of schedule left.

Sam Smith from Bulls.com has looked at the Wolves and determined that they make make a move out of sheer desperation at the deadline, stating that the team can’t afford to fall out of the playoff hunt for another consecutive year.

This seems to clash with what Flip Saunders has told the local Minneapolis media, as he’s gone on record as saying mid-season trades never work out for losing teams.

Still, the Wolves need to make the postseason this year to have any hope of Kevin Love re-signing with the team. It real all comes down to how confident they are they can keep him and if they think they can do so without showing him that they’re willing to make splashy moves to get better right now.
