Raccoon watches New York Yankees spring-training workouts

Spring Training is here, and the New York Yankees are getting ready for Derek Jeter’s final season. New York Post photographer Charles Wenzelberg  spotted a surprise visitor in the stands watching the Yankees and snapped a picture of the intruder, a raccoon. (See the photo here)

From the New York Post:

“If was a freaky moment and I happened to get it,” Wenzelberg said.

The Post lensman had been in the outfield photographing a rainbow that had appeared over Steinbrenner Field. Then a loud noise startled Wenzelberg — and the raccoon.

“I heard this banging sound – something fell, maybe it was a baseball bat, I don’t know – but it must have startled the raccoon because I see it running out of the Yankees dugout and into the stands,” said Wenzelberg, who swung his camera toward the fleeing critter.

”Its head pops up [over the seats] for a split second and maybe I caught two frames. I got lucky.”

Someone better put a lid on the trash cans tonight.
