The Pittsburgh Panthers received excellent news on Tuesday when 3-star outside linebacker/defensive end Kevin Givens committed to the Panthers.
The 6’3, 230-pound Givens is from Altoona, Pennsylvania.
“He doesn’t get it yet, but when he gets it, look out,” Givens’ head coach, John Franco, told Jerry DiPaola of the Pittsburgh Times-Review. “He has a great frame (6-foot-3, 235 pounds) and can easily put on 30 pounds. He is a great worker in the weight room.”
Givens can play either linebacker or defensive end, but 24/7 Sports’ projects him as a weak-side defensive end.
“He’s at his best with his hand on the ground, playing weak-side defensive end where he can really rush the passer,” Franco said.
Givens is considered the 32nd best weak side defensive prospect, the 21st overall best prospect in the state of Pennsylvania and 751st best overall prospect in the class of 2015, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
Givens chose the Panthers over offers from the Boston College Eagles, Massachusetts Minutemen, Temple Owls and Western Michigan Broncos.
Givens also has heavy interest in the Penn State Nittany Lions.
