Although Johan Santana might not be available to pitch until mid-season, that hasn’t stopped the Minnesota Twins from having interest in the southpaw.
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Twins still have eyes on their former ace.
The Twins remain interested in a reunion with free agent lefthander Johan Santana, but competition is growing.
According to a source close to Santana, several teams have expressed interest recently in the two-time Cy Young winner.
Rob Antony, the Twins assistant General Manager, confirmed on Tuesday that he spoke with Santana’s agent, Peter Greenberg, on Monday and that the sides remain in contact.
Santana is a walking injury, though, if he doesn’t cost much more than a minor league deal – there’s no reason not to make an offer if you’re Minnesota who likely holds a special place in Santana’s baseball heart.
Oft-injured or not, Santana still produces when he’s healthy and while he’s on the downside of his career, Santana could very much help the Twins when healthy. Only problem is keeping him that way.
