NBA Trade Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers willing to move Dion Waiters, draft pick

The Cleveland Cavaliers are apparently serious about improving come the NBA’s trade deadline and are open to trading both Dion Waiters and their first round draft pick for a significant addition, this according to ESPN’s Chad Ford.

It’s been reported that Waiters was told he would not be traded by the Cavaliers in recent days, but we all know how that goes – especially when a good offer comes across the wire.

Per HoopsRumors:

If the Cavs are determined to make a playoff push, they’ll offer Dion Waiters and their 2014 first-round pick in search of veteran help, Ford writes.

While Waiters has had his struggles, he and a solid first round pick isn’t a very bad haul. Of course, it’s not known how significant of an upgrade the Cavaliers are looking for.

You can’t help but think the Los Angeles Lakers could potentially offer up Pau Gasol again as Luol Deng, Kyrie Irving and Gasol would make up a very solid three-piece in the relatively woeful Eastern Conference. Though, Cleveland would likely need assurance that Gasol would re-sign come season end before parting with such high quality assets.

I just can not imagine a situation where Waiters and a pick are worth trading right now. You need a long term player who is fairly young. Don’t see that happening and I certainly don’t see Gilbert allowing Mr. Interim to make that call.

Trade Andy and Deng, they will net a good return and won’t help going forward when we are able to contend far into the playoffs.

How in the sake of a bad Onion type tweet do you get “Cavaliers are willing to trade Waiters and first round pick” from this “If the Cavs are determined to make a playoff push, they’ll offer Dion Waiters and their 2014 first-round pick in search of veteran help, Ford writes.”

And for Gasol? what in the world would they do with an injured old, slow center when they already have Tristan Thompson, Anderson Varejao, Tyler Zeller and Anthony Bennett?

I’m really scratching my noggin on this one.

Laker fan, “Cleveland will just give us their stud Waiters and a top lottery pick in this coming loaded draft for one of our players that doesn’t play and costs way too much.”

      Cavs fan, “LMAO!”
