It appears the Phoenix Suns aren’t the only team with an interest in acquiring Pau Gasol as according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, the Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Bobcats have held talks about a Gasol trade.
The Lakers are said to want youth and/or draft picks in a Gasol deal, but according to Bonnell, the Bobcats are hesitant to make such a move.
While adding Gasol could give the Bobcats the short-term boost to make the playoffs, giving up a first-round pick would make Gasol more of a long-term investment. That’s where the Bobcats would have pause.
Charlotte certainly has the pieces to work a deal financially as they have both Ben Gordon and Ramon Sessions on expiring contracts, which would match Gasol’s $19 million dollar contract. Los Angeles would likely need to send back a young, cheap player to intrigue the ‘Cats, but a deal between the two seems like a bit of a long shot at this point – especially given the Lakers elevated demands.
