The No. 9 Villanova Wildcats needed some last second heroics, in the second overtime period, to overcome the unranked Providence Friars. With the game tied at 79 apiece, and less than 10 seconds on the class, the Wildcats went for the win.
It was guard Ryan Arcidiacono who was the hero for the Wildcats. He had the ball outside the arc and took his man one-on-one towards the baseline. His defender couldn’t keep up but fouled him as Arcidiacono but up a desperation lay up that went in for two points. He got the foul as well, which he sunk to give the Wildcats an 82-79 win over Providence.
For the Friars it is heartbreaking to being so close to upsetting a top ten team only to fall short.
