Showtime Renews Shameless and House of Lies

It is almost that time, ladies and gentlemen. It is just about that time where networks have to make the tough decisions about which shows are going to continue their runs, and which ones will find the business end of th proverbial axe, and fade into re-run heaven. Showtime has made one of those decisions today, and thankfully, it was good news. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime has renewed both House of Lies and Shameless for a new season in 2015.

Shameless will be heading into its fifth season. As some of you may already know, Shameless tells the story of the Gallagher family. Frank Gallagher, played in the series by William H. Macy, is the patriarch of the clan; an alcoholic whose health has been less than stellar. With his addiction taking over, he has not been much a parent to his children.

This responsibility has fallen on his eldest daughter Fiona, who is played in the series by Emmy Rossum. Unfortunately, in the most recent episodes, Fiona has found herself in quite a bit of trouble. It will be interesting to see what happens when the “responsible one” in the family is suddenly taken out of the picture.

House of Lies will be returning for its fourth season. The show follows the adventures of a group of misfit consultants as they make their way through the demanding and cutthroat world of management. Don Cheadle plays the role of Marty Kaan, the head of the group of consultants.

Marty is one of those who are not above using any means necessary to get the job done. Under him is Jeannie Van Der Hooven, who is played in the series by Kristen Bell. Rounding out the team is Clyde Oberholt and Doug Guggenheim, played by Ben Schwartz and Josh Lawson respectively.

Both shows have been producing good ratings for Showtime, who has long battled against their greatest competitor HBO, who boasts shows like Game of Thrones and True Detective.

While the current seasons of both of these shows are still running on the network, it will be interesting to see what the shows can do now knowing that they have another season to expand their storylines with.
