Figure skaters can use music with lyrics beginning this season

In previous years only ice dancers were given the opportunity to skate their routines with music that was accompanied by lyrics, but change is coming to the figure skating world. Beginning in the 2014-15 season, men’s, ladies and pairs will also be able to use vocal music when they take the ice.

“The young people requested to have vocal music with lyrics because it is more connected to the music of today, and they like to skate to the music they are hearing,” International Skating Union official Fabio Bianchetti said to The New York Times.

With the changes to the musical aspect of figure skating, we could be in for some really exciting and truly epic routines.
