Wednesday night was certainly one of the more eventful nights in the 2013-14 college basketball season as the top-ranked and undefeated Syracuse Orange were absolutely stunned by a six-win Boston College team, 62-59, in overtime. At nearly the exact same time, the second-ranked Florida Gators had a scare themselves against the Auburn Tigers, although unlike Jim Boeheim and the Orange, Billy Donovan and the Gators survived.
So, when you do the math, that means that if Florida can survive their next game against Marshall Henderson and the Ole Miss Rebels this weekend, they should be on the fast track to the number one spot in the rankings come this Monday.
The Gators have been on a tear, winning 18 games in a row since their loss to the Connecticut Huskies all the way back on Dec. 2. They’ve owned the SEC thus far and are now prepared to be the team that virtually owns the country as we rapidly head toward the month of March.
Now, the question remains whether or not this team can finish the regular season undefeated in conference play the rest of the way with only five games left to go.
