MLB Rumors: Boston Red Sox say contract extension with David Ortiz 'conceivable'

Earlier this offseason, Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz suggested he wanted a contract extension or he may need to look at greener pastures.

It was a comment that didn’t sit well with many in Beantown, especially given Ortiz suggested he wanted an extension upwards of four years – quite an investment for a 38-year-old player.

Ortiz eventually backed off that stance and hinted he was more than open to a one year extension, an extension that the Red Sox feel is ‘conceivable’ according to owner John Henry.

Henry:’Ortiz extension ‘conceivable…He wants to finish his career here. We should try to make that happen’

There’s really little reason the two sides shouldn’t be able to agree on an extension, unless Ortiz demands more years than the Red Sox are comfortable with.

I can’t imagine the Red Sox would balk at two years, which should be plenty for Ortiz unless he simply continues with the unrealistic demands which he suggested earlier in the offseason.

Big Papi is entering the final year of his current contract this season.
