It appears NBA insider Chad Ford doesn’t believe Kevin Love will be staying with the Minnesota Timberwolves moving forward, suggesting that there is 95 percent chance the former UCLA product will leave in free agency.
Given everything I know about the situation, there’s about 95 percent chance Love is leaving.
Love has been the subject of multiple trade rumors in recent days (though they all appear to be coming from outside sources, nothing in Minnesota) given his pending contractual status.
The All-Star power forward is signed through next season though holds a player option for the 2015-16 season which he likely isn’t to exercise, which will make him an unrestricted free agent.
Ford goes on to suggest that he feels the best time for the Timberwolves to explore potential Kevin Love trades will be during the Summer/NBA Draft as teams will still be willing to give up significant assets to acquire him and retain his Bird Rights.
Of course, any of the serious suitors (like the Los Angeles Lakers) likely feel they can get him in free agency and won’t part with elite talent via a trade.
