Los Angeles Lakers power forward Pau Gasol has not played in over two weeks, but there was hope coming out of the NBA’s All-Star break that Gasol would be able to return to the court.
That won’t be the case though as Gasol will not play in Wednesday’s game against the Houston Rockets.
Pau Gasol (strained groin) won’t play tonight vs. Houston. He wants one more practice before returning to the court, D’Antoni said.
While this likely seems to be par for the course, it is a little odd considering the timing.
The Lakers firmly seemed to believe Gasol would be ready after the break but with the trade deadline just a day away, could the Lakers be sitting Gasol so he doesn’t suffer a more significant injury? There’s really no way to know for sure, but the timing is certainly suspect.
Los Angeles is said to be engaged in multiple trade talks for Gasol and letting him play on a potentially tender groin simply doesn’t make much sense.
