Rick Pitino calls social media poisonous

During a Wednesday appearance on ESPN Radio’s “Mike and Mike,” Louisville Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino had some strong words regarding his athletes’ use of social media.

Take it away, Angry Old Man Yelling at Kids to Leave Lawn:

Every hour, it’s like taking a little bit of poison. It poisons their minds.

I think technology is a great thing in many instances, and I think it’s poison in others, and for people in sports especially.

Pitino continued:

I don’t know why people do it. It’s not that I’m against certain facets of social media, because I’m not, but what you’re talking about — what [Russ Smith] is doing — is a total waste of time.

You hear that, kids? Stop with all the FaceSpace-ing and the Insta-chatting and the Twitter-izing this instant! No wonder this generation is so soft and weak. Why, back in my day we had to etch sexts into granite slabs and deliver them to our paramours on foot!
