Ride Along, the latest comedic effort from Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, took the box office by storm. During its first three weeks of release the film kept a tight grip on the top spot before being upended by The LEGO Movie. This makes it no surprise that the studio would look to keep the momentum rolling with a follow up. According to Deadline, Ride Along 2 is already in the works.

Ride Along stars Kevin Hart as a slick, fast-talking security guard named Ben Barber who is in a romantic relationship with Angela Payton, who is played in the film by The Game actress Tika Sumpter. When Barber decides that he wants to take their relationship to the next level, Payton’s brother James wants to make sure that Barber is up to the task to take care of his sister for the long haul.

In order to further assess Ben, James, who is an Atlanta police officer, takes Ben on a ride along to make sure that he is the right man for his sister. This is where things start to get interesting.

As I said before, Ride Along has been very successful at the Box Office. The film has already earned a total of $117.2 million domestically in the film’s four weeks of release.

Director Tim Story, who is also working with Hart on the film Think Like A Man Too, will be returning to direct the second installment. Screenwriters Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who worked on the script for Ride Along are currently working to pen the script for the next installment as well.

There is no word on the plot of the new film, any further casting decisions, or even a release date as the film was just recently announced; however, as you are fully aware, things can change in the blink of an eye in Hollywood, so it is only a matter of time before we get some more details on the film’s progress.
