Rutgers commit Saquon Barkley flips to Penn State

Running back recruit Saquon Barkley, a junior from Whitehall (Pa.), flipped his commitment from the Rutgers Scarlet Knight to the Penn State Nittany Lions on Wednesday.

Barkley, who rushed for 1,506 yards and a ridiculous 23 touchdowns last season, told The Morning Call that the decision was a difficult one:

It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. The way I was raised and taught is to never go back on your word. I didn’t want to do it because I felt wrong.

But I just had to take matters in my own hands and do what’s best for me. Rutgers was my dream school at the time [when I first committed]. Penn State was just a better fit for me. Why would I pass that up?

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound running back attended Penn State’s Junior Day event this past Saturday.

He is the first running back in the Nittany Lions’ 2015 recruiting class.
