Sochi Olympics: Latvia’s Daugavins Out vs. Canada

If the Latvians are going to pull of, arguably, the biggest upset in men’s Olympic hockey history, they are going to have to do it without one of their better players.

Kaspars Daugavins, one of the few Latvian players with NHL experience, will miss today’s game against Canada with an illness, according to Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press. Daugavins has played in 91 NHL games with the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins.

In four games at this year’s Olympics, Daugavins has two only two assists, but he has been one of Latvia’s better defensive forwards. Latvia takes on Canada today at Noon EST on MSNBC in the United States. You can also watch the game online at NBCSports.com.
