Sochi Olympics, men’s giant slalom results: Ted Ligety wins gold

Things got started right away today in Sochi, as Day 12 of the Winter Olympics got kicked off with the Men’s Giant Slalom Run which saw the United States walk away with another gold medal. After being the subject of Jimmy Fallon’s late night routine on The Tonight Show, skier Ted Ligety put it all on the line and may have very well earned his way onto The Tonight Show thanks to his performance in the event.

Ligety finished the Giant Slalom his second of two runs fast enough to finish an almost full half-second better than silver medalist Steve Missillier from France. The French took him the bronze as well with Alexis Pinturault finishing just behind his teammate.

The event was owned by the Americans though, as Ligety is walking away with Olympics gold. It’s a great way for Team USA to start off the day as the medal opportunities are starting to run thin and so far the ones that have presented haven’t all been taken.

Ligety tool his though and as a result, he’s taking home Olympics gold for his country.
