Bubba Watson defeated Mikko Ilonen 2&1 in the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.  Watson will face Jonas Blixt tomorrow in the second round.

Watson was 2-up through four, but lost three straight holes to go 1-down through seven.  After evening the score on eight, Watson lost nine and ten to go 2-down.  However, Bubba staged a comeback against Ilonen with birdies on thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen to swing the match in his favor.  A birdie on 17 sealed the deal, 2&1.

Bubba won last week at the Northern Trust Open, and spoke about dealing with the distractions of winning, and making sure he has enough energy to focus on the golf course:

You get caught up sometimes in the hoopla of the high fives and the cheers and the celebrations.  So the energy level and the focus ‑‑ when I say energy level, I’m talking about energy level to focus on the golf course.  It makes it tougher.

Watson also said his caddie, Ted Scott, pushed him to perform:

I fought hard.  My caddie just said keep going, keep going, give me one hole, give me one hole.  He kept pushing me, and somehow it came out to me winning.
