Jimmy Walker has won three of his last nine events on the PGA Tour, and continued his hot play today with a 5&4 victory over Branden Grace at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Walker is pleased with the state of his game, and the recognition he is getting from his fans:
I’m having a lot of fun. It’s just validation for me, a lot of years being out here and working hard. And to see it all kind of pay off, that’s what I’ve been waiting for.
It’s been great. Everybody has been so nice. I’ve had so many people come up to me and say it’s been a long time coming, we’re really proud of you, couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, that type of stuff, stuff that you can tell people really mean, and that means a lot to me.
Walker showed no signs of rust after not playing match play in competition since the U.S. Amateur Public Links. Walker won six holes, and only lost one after failing to birdie the par-5 eleventh.
Walker said he is “feeling confident and excited about the rest of the week.”
He will face Rickie Fowler in round two tomorrow.
