Rory McIlroy defeated Boo Weekley 3&2 in the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play.  Rory will play Harris English in the second round tomorrow.

In the middle part of the match, Rory won five of seven holes to take a commanding 4-up lead.  Weekley shaved the deficit to 2-down through 15, but McIlroy won the next hole to close out the match.

Sergio Garcia defeated Marc Leishman in twenty-two holes in the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play.  It was a hard-fought match that did not include a bogey until the fourteenth hole.  Garcia pushed the match to extras with a birdie on 17 to make it all-square.  Both players blew their chance to close out the match on eighteen by halving the hole with bogies.

On the fourth playoff hole, Garcia rolled in a seven-foot birdie putt to win.

Sergio will play Bill Haas in the second round tomorrow:

Going to be a tough match.  He’s a great player, a good friend of mine.  We get along well, but very good player, so it’s going to be difficult.

Rory and Sergio are both in the Ben Hogan bracket, and will meet in the quarterfinals if they win their next two matches.
