FIS hopes to add team skiing event at 2018 Winter Olympics

According to an announcement this week, the International Ski Federation (FIS) plans on making a push to have a team skiing event added to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Sarah Lewis, secretary general of the FIS, told Reuters the federation is confident the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will like the proposal:

Now we are confident that…they (the IOC) are very open and supportive of including the nations team event.

It’s now matured to a level where it’s really a highlight of the world championships…many people thought it was actually the best event.

So we have a strong lobby behind it to say it’s time to include it on the Olympic program.

While I can certainly get behind the idea of adding more skiing events to the Olympics, I’m a tad disappointed people aren’t lobbying to introduce sledding as the newest sport. (I’d also settle for snowman-building.)
