Is it starting all over again for Matt Kemp and the Los Angeles Dodgers faithful?
The MVP caliber outfielder was hopeful to be ready when Los Angeles opened their season in Australia against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but a few weeks ago that projection became unlikely after trainers hinted Kemp wouldn’t be ready. It was a sentiment echoed recently again by skipper Don Mattingly and now it’s being reported the Dodgers have no timetable on Kemp’s return.
“I wish I could give you a timetable but I don’t know it,” Mattingly said. “I read the reports of him doing a little bit more, a higher speed on the ultra-g (treadmill). But as far as getting out here and running, what’s the date? I don’t have that. That’s kind of depending on what the doctors say.”
In fairness, the Dodgers certainly want to take the cautious approach with Kemp, who is recovering from ankle surgery. There’s no reason to rush him back early only to have him hurt himself again, but you can’t help but wonder if it’s more of the same for the talented though seemingly oft-injured star.
