Will the Boston Celtics trade Rajon Rondo before the NBA’s deadline? It doesn’t appear likely as most sources are suggesting a Rondo trade is unlikely, including Sean Deveney of SportingNews who suggests the Celtics want to build around their point guard and lure free agents thanks to his high profile name (and game).
On SXM NBA radio,
@SeanDeveney – “The Celtics are not trading Rondo. They plan to keep him and build around him, using him to attract FAs”
There’s really two sets of thoughts when it comes to Rondo.
You either trade him (and the quicker the better) for a return of youth and draft picks and hope to expedite the rebuilding process. Or you keep him, hope that you’re able to retain him in free agency/extend his contract and use his All-Star name/game to bring in additional talent.
I’m not really sure either is the wrong answer – each option has its strong points and weaknesses, though you do think there has to be some concern with Rondo’s age given he’ll likely be on the downside of his career when the Celtics are competitive again.
