Although Matt Cassel opted out of his contract with the Minnesota Vikings earlier this month (leaving $3.7 million dollars on the table), that doesn’t mean his time with the Vikings is over.

According to Ben Goessling, Cassel will meet with the Vikings brass in the near future to discuss a potential return.

"Rick Spielman says on KFAN that the #Vikings will meet with Matt Cassel’s agent today. Still want to bring him back."

General manager Rick Spielman has already stated that he’s interested in having Cassel return and franchise running back Adrian Peterson has hinted he’d prefer the Vikings to re-sign Cassel, rather than drafting a rookie.

There aren’t many quarterbacks on the open market better than Cassel (which says more about the available free agent quarterbacks than it does Cassel) so the Vikings could certainly do worse, but I’m sure Vikings fans aren’t exactly overly thrilled with the prospect of him returning.

So far there has been no talk of any financials, though one would expect Cassel would be looking for a deal that would secure himself long term.
