With its players playing in Russia at the Sochi Winter Olympics, the NHL finds itself in the middle of a two-week break that comes to an end on Tuesday. And though many will believe that the Olympic game is more exciting than the league here in North America, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman doesn’t by that argument.
In speaking with NBC’s Al Michaels, who asked him about the difference in ice size in international play compared to the NHL rink, Bettman stated that he believes that NHL game is better than the Olympic game.

“I think our game is better,” Bettman said. “I think our game has more offensive intensity, particularly play around the net.”
Bettman continued: “There have been some people who have advocated that it’s a little safer. I don’t buy that either.”
In terms of moving to a bigger ice sheet in the NHL, Bettman’s answer was simple: “We’re not advocates of the bigger ice.”
