The Anaheim Ducks are the best team in the NHL right now. They lead the very tough Western Conference by a few points over teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues.
Like any team heading towards the playoffs, the Ducks look to be a team that look to be busy at the NHL Trade Deadline. Of course, rather than being a team that is trying to add a piece to give them a bigger chance of making the playoffs, the Ducks are looking for those one or two pieces that will put them over the top and guide them to their second Stanley Cup.
The Ducks defense core currently consists of Francois Beauchemin, Hampus Lindholm, Ben Lovejoy, Cam Fowler, Luca Sbisa and Sami Vatanen. That is a talented group for sure, but also a very young one. Another factor in why the Ducks are looking for a stay-at-home defender is that none of their current D-men can really be described in that way. There are a couple of them that are two-way defensemen, but not purely defensive.
This is why Girardi, or another player like him, would be a perfect fit in Anaheim. Girardi focuses on the defensive game and is also very capable of blocking shots. That would take some of the pressure of Jonas Hiller.
Definitely watch for the Ducks to acquire a D-man at or before the March 5 NHL Trade Deadline.
