Red Sox, Chris Capuano agree on a one year, $2.25 million deal

Earlier today it was reported by Jon Heyman that the Boston Red Sox were making great progress on free agent pitcher Chris Capuano.

Now Jon Heyman is reporting that the defending World Series Champions and the left handed veteran have agree’d to a one year contract worth $2.25 million but bonuses could boost it up to $5 million on the year.

Capuano picked up a relief role with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, but could be competing for a spot in Boston’s starting five. The 35 year old posted a 3.91 ERA, 1.28 WHIP in two years with the Dodgers.

If he’s unable to pick up a spot in the starting rotation, he will still be used out of the bullpen. Great pick up by the Red Sox after Ryan Dempster announced that he’s going to be sitting out the 2014 season.
