NFL teams finally learned the official height of Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel, when he got his measurements taking at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Friday. Manziel had promised to come in at 6-foot even when his height was measured, but he came up shot of his goal.
According to NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt, Manziel measured 5-foot-11 3/4 and weighed 207 pounds.
The good news for Manziel is that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been able to shatter any stereotypes about shorter quarterbacks, but Manziel’s reckless playing style at that size will be a major concern for teams around the league.
Manziel was six inches short than fellow top quarterback prospect Blake Bortles of UCF and three-inches shorter than Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater.
The good news, however, is that Manziel had large hands measuring 9 7/8 inches, so ball security shouldn’t be a concern.
Will the size concerns be enough to cause teams at the top of the draft to pass on Manziel in May’s draft or will he still be a top five selection? Sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts.
