College basketball poll: Should Florida or Wichita State be the new No. 1?

Coming into Saturday night, there was a chance that the Syracuse Orange could still claim their number one post come Monday, despite their shocking loss to Boston College earlier this week. Should they go on the road to Cameron Indoor Stadium Saturday night and defeat the Duke Blue Devils–more than likely handily–then securing that slot would be plausible.

However, that didn’t happen as it was the Blue Devils who exacted their revenge, making it certain that Syracuse will not be the top dog come Monday morning.

So, who will be then?

That’s the dilemma facing some voters, as well as fans across the country. The two options are the current second-ranked team in the nation, the Florida Gators, who seem likeliest to make the jump following their close win over the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday.

However, on the other hand, the third-ranked Wichita State Shockers pushed their record to 29-0 on the season with an easy win over Drake. Putting their conference affiliation aside, people are beginning to see that this is a legitimate basketball team more than capable of making a return trip to the Final Four.

So, with that being said, who do you think should be awarded the top billing in the polls come Monday? Cast your vote below.

Body of work for many teams doesn’t end from one season to the next. Last years WSU wins driving to the final four shouldn’t be excluded anymore than the past five years under the same coach. When WSU couldn’t get past the bubble four years ago they went to the NIT almost all sports writers wrote projections of who has the best chance of winning that NIT. None picked WSU which had wins over SEC, Big 12, Pac-10, ACC…then they watched WSU take home the banner. (That team could have went deep in the big dance.) Two years ago they got knocked out by a tuff VCU team that went to the final four so few realized WSU’s potential until last year. My point is I’ve watch the potential grow over four years and it’s real. This is a final four team so sit back and watch the dance b/c the team and players seem more angry now for lack of respect from the so called high majors and media pundit denying them the number 1 ranking.

Gators play a rigorous SEC schedule and manage to be undefeated. Billy Donovan makes the correct adjustments at the half and they pull off some great wins. Add this to the fact that the Gators are in exceptional physical shape, so near the end of the game when their opponents are wheezing and out of gas the Gators are getting their second wind. They are a joy to watch and their camaraderie is infectious.
    Go Gators!
