Former Missouri Tigers defensive lineman and co-SEC defensive player of the year had a horde of media surrounding him at the NFL Scouting Combine as the first openly gay draft prospect answered question after question with him expressing he would love to be viewed as a football player and not Michael Sam the gay football player.

A couple weeks after coming out as a proud gay man, Sam knew he would be faced with a litany of questions pertaining to his landmark statement and whether he feels like a trailblazer or if he would feel comfortable in certain environments or locker rooms, but he’s ready to talk about football.
“Heck yeah, I’d like for you guys to say, ‘Michael Sam, how is football?” — Michael Sam

Sam comported himself extremely well and look prepared for all sorts of questions and in an environment that brings anxiety levels of many to all-time highs, Sam was relaxed, measured and at ease with the entire process and looks like he’s ready to get back on the field and play football and earn a spot on an NFL team.
