The San Francisco 49ers reportedly have a few but hefty priorities going into this season. One of them is to re-sign head coach Jim Harbaugh. Another is to find a middle ground on a new contract with quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

San Francisco’s signal caller will be entering the final year of his rookie deal and the 49ers understandably don’t want to let the former Nevada product hit the open market come season end. They also don’t want to have an in-season distraction by not signing Kaepernick, which has lead to the two sides already having preliminary talks about a new deal.

"#49ers and reps for QB Colin Kaepernick met last night to begin preliminary contract negotiations for the QB. They had dinner."

San Francisco may find themselves in a bit of a pickle simply given Kaepernick’s talent and the fact that he hasn’t been in the league very long, which has lead some NFL insiders to suggest the two sides may need to get creative on a deal – one that pays Kaepernick rewardingly but doesn’t financially strap the 49ers.
