After a devastating loss to Team Canada on Friday night, the American’s ran into a buzz saw in Finland who put on a scoring clinic in a 5-0 blowout win to secure the bronze medal. On the anniversary of Team USA beating the Russians in the Miracle on Ice, the Americans were hardly memorable and fell flat on their faces in their most embarrassing game of the Olympics.
Netminder Jonathan Quick was chased by the Fins after giving up five goals in an abysmal night in net. On the other end of the ice, Tuukka Rask was phenomenal and channeled his epic Stanley Cup run from last year in which he was a brick wall and allowed no goals all game long.
The shutout win for the Fins was dominating in every single way, with Rask looking brilliant in net and Teemu Selanne finishing the game a goal shy of a record-tying amount of Olympic hat tricks.
It was by far an embarrassing and disappointing game for Team USA, as they couldn’t get any luck when it came to scoring. Twice, Patrick Kane was alone on Rask and both times he failed to get the puck in the net. It was Stanley Cup payback for Rask, as while Kane’s Blackhawks may have wont he Stanley Cup in 2013, Rask and tin Fins took home the bronze in Sochi and sent he Americans home with nothing to show for their trip.
