The third bout on the UFC 170 pay per view card is a pivotal Welterweight matchup between two of the divisions elite fighters. Jiu-jitsu specialist, Demian Maia, will take on team Tri-Star member, Rory MacDonald.
Rory MacDonald is coming off a very poor 2013 and is looking to get back on the winning track. After winning four fights in a row in impressive fashion, many believed MacDonald could be the next Georges St-Pierre. After a lackluster decision victory over Jake Ellenberger in his next bout, MacDonald lost to Robbie Lawler by split decision in a very close fight. With his five fight winning streak snapped, MacDonald has a renewed fire and is looking to impress tonight
Demian Maia is also coming off a split decision loss in his last bout. At UFC Fight Night 29, Maia lost to Jake Shields in controversial fashion. The loss snapped his three fight winning streak, and pushed him to the back of the line for a title shot. Maia is one of the most dangerous grapplers in the sport, and always provides exciting bouts. This fight has all the makings of ‘fight of the night’ as both competitors are hungry and looking to make a statement.
