It was a wild shootout at the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson, Ariz., but Wilmer Cabrera’s Chivas USA defeated Jay Heaps’ New England Revolution in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory on Saturday.

Down 2-0 thanks to goals from Lee Nguyen (11′) and Teal Bunbury (20′), the Goats bounced back with goals from Erick Torres (25′), Carlos Alvarez (54′) and Mauro Rosales (74′). Chivas USA now get a chance to play for the tournament title when thyey take on the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday at the Kino Sports Complex.

“It’s always good to get a change of scenery, be with the group, get to know the guys a little bit more, and do a lot of activities together,” defender Bobby Burling told CDChivasUSAcom’s Olivia Cervantes. “Obviously we see each other every day at practice, but being away with the team is a good chance to get to know the younger guys and for team bonding.

“We’re taking one game at a time, we’re trying to build and get better. Doesn’t matter the opponent, we have to worry about ourselves first and foremost. We’re getting better on the little details, defensive shape, defensive shifting, defending as a group of 11 not just four people. It’s finding tune to the little details; it’s good to play in front of a nice stadium, nice fans, but it’s another game, it’s a chance to prove ourselves and get better in the little details.”

“It’s a new team, new players for me; I’m trying to understand everyone,” Rosales added. “In my case, [I’m] trying to support every single player, with or without experience, and always looking forward to have a good team for the next season. The next season is going to start soon, and everyone has to be ready to battle, to do the best job they can do.”

“I was so, so excited to be on the field,” Bunbury told RevolutionSoccer.net’s Jeff Lemieux. “The past couple days of training have been a lot of fun with the guys, but to be able to get in a preseason game and kind of get the feel for how they really play, it’s great.

“I’m really loving playing with all those guys. Diego likes to check inside and I can play off of him. Same with Lee Nguyen and Kelyn, as well. It’s going to be a fun partnership and it’s just really exciting.”
