Yankees, Brett Gardner agree on a four year $52 million extension

Earlier today, FanSided editor Bryan Rosa reported that the New York Yankees and outfielder Brett Gardner were closing on a huge contract extension.

It was later confirmed by Jon Heyman on Twitter, that the Yankees and Gardner were able to agree on the four year contract extension. The extension will have Gardner signed through 2019.

He’ll be receiving a $2 million signing bonus, $12 million in 2015, $13 million in 2016, $12 million in 2017, $11 million in 2018 and a $2 million buy ($12.5 million) out option for 2019 according to Jon Heyman once again.

This is a great pick up for the Yankees considering that Carlos Beltran may not be sticking around for much longer. They could also either trade Ichiro Suzuki or lose him to retirement at the end of the year, so locking up Gardner was obvious.

Now what do you think New York Yankees fans? Do you like this move by the front office?

It’s about time Gardner got his due. He has been one of the biggest bargains in all of baseball. He plays lights out all the time and has spent his entire career in pinstripes. Maybe now this will stop all the talk of trading him. He is far too valuable to the ballclub.

The Yankees are committed to a championship. To attain such a goal you have to make sure all your players are content. Outstanding class those Yankees. Not like bush League Tampa or some other po dunk team.

It’s about time……….now go after Robertson full bore

I think they will do just that, but are waiting to see how he handles the closer role. It is the smart move for both parties involved because there is a big difference between set-up money and closer money. I hope he does well. Robertson and Gardner are cut from the same cloth.
